Many employers ask standard interview questions at all levels of hiring, and it’s important to craft thoughtful, concise answers that reflect your unique experiences and strengths. 


Background Information.

  • Tell me about yourself and your experience to date: Focus on your professional background, key achievements, and specific examples aligned to the role.
  • What motivates you?: Highlight intrinsic motivators like growth, learning, and collaboration.
  • Why are you looking at new opportunities at the moment?: Prepare to answer why you are actively seeking a new role.
  • Why are you interested in this position and working at this company?: Relate the job’s responsibilities to your skills and interests, emphasising cultural fit.
     

Transferable Skills.

  • What would you say are your biggest strengths?: Pick two strengths and tie them directly to the job’s requirements.
  • What do your long-term goals look like?: Express a commitment to the company and show that your goals align with their growth.
  • What are you looking for in your next role?: Emphasise career growth, alignment with your skills, and company culture.
  • How would your managers describe you?: Use performance feedback to highlight positive traits like work ethic and communication.
     

Behavioural Questions.

  • How would others describe you?: Reflect on your personality and style, and spend time thinking about your key characteristics.
  • What type of environment brings out your best?: Provide some insight into the environment that allows you to flourish in a role. This may also extend to your ideal relationship with management.
  • Tell me about a time when you worked under pressure.: Provide an example where you used problem-solving skills to deliver results under stress.
  • Have you handled a difficult situation with a co-worker?: Emphasise conflict resolution, professionalism, and clear communication.
  • Tell me about how an idea you had was implemented.: Showcase an initiative you led, focusing on the impact it had on improving processes or results.
     

Logistic Questions.

  • What do you see as being your biggest challenge to overcome in this role?: Every role has challenges. Offer some insight as to what you foresee as being most difficult but how you plan to overcome that.
  • What is your salary expectation?: Be aware of the market rate and what you would expect for the role considering its criteria. 
  • What is your notice period and availability to start? Ensure you are aware of your contractual notice period and any other restricting factors that could impact your availability. 


Closing Questions.

  • Are you interviewing for other positions?: Be honest but remain diplomatic, showing interest in the current role.
  • Do you have any questions?: Ask thoughtful questions that show you’ve researched the company and are genuinely interested in the role.
